Example #1
Who is your favorite character ?

“Characters” are people in a story or movie. You can answer with “I really liked…” and say their name.

[Example]
Who is your favorite character ?
I really liked….
Very nice.

Example #2
What was your favorite scene ?

“Scene” is used when talking about movies, TV shows, or plays. It refers to a part of the movie or TV show or play. A movie is broken up in parts or scenes. Just like before, you can answer with, “I really liked…” So for example, “I really liked when he proposed.” or “I really liked when he drove the car really fast.” Or something like that.

[Example]
What was your favorite scene?

Example #3
That movie was so cheesy

“Cheesy” means that it was really predictable, but a little unrealistic. People say this a lot about romance movies. You can even say it about jokes.

[Example]
That movie was so cheesy.
Very nice.

Example #4
That movie was so moving

“Moving” means that it was a deep, emotional movie for you. It touched your emotions.

[Example]
That movie was so moving.

Example #5
The camera work was amazing

“Camera work” refers to special effects and filming technique. Not just the camera.

[Example]
The camera work was amazing.
Good job.

[Playback Position:3min 19sec]
Next.

Example #6
I can’t wait to see the sequel

A “sequel” is the next movie in a series. We can also use this word for books.

[Example]

[Playback Position:3min 44sec]

Example #7
I wonder when the next movie will come out

A lot of people say this when talking about a movie series. You can’t use this for a single movie because it says “next movie”. It has to be a series. Using “come out” means when a movie starts showing in a theater. You can use this with any movie. So, for example, “I wonder when Aladdin will come out”. Or something like that.

[Playback Position:4min 25sec]
And last, but not least, we have.

Example #8
The previews start at 8:00

“Previews” are the ads in a movie theater, or the commercials that are shown before a movie. The word has “pre”, “pre” always means something like before. So previews. The commercials before a movie.

[Example]
The previews start at 8:00.

[Playback Position:5min 00sec]

That’s all for today. A common small talk topic is movies, so I hope this is useful for you. My guess is that you will have the opportunity to use these phrases!
