TOEIC 練習問題の答えと解説
1. 正解は(D)の「exceeded」
【解説】問題文には動詞がないので、空欄には必ず動詞が入ることが分かります。選択肢はすべて動詞ですが、この文でexpectations（予想）を目的語にできるのはexceeded（超えた）のみです。
outweighは「上回る」と訳すこともありますが、長所と短所のように二つを対照してどちらが重大かを表す動詞であるためここでは不適切です。bypassed（回避した）とexcelled（秀でた）は文意に合いません。なお、選択肢には含まれていませんが、「超えた」という意味をもつsurpassed（超えた）は文意に合う表現です。
【英文】Earnings for the first half of this year exceeded the expectations of industry analysts.
訳：今年上半期の収益は業界アナリストの予想を超えた。

2. 正解は(B)の「promoted」

5. 正解は(D)の「within」
【解説】選択肢はすべて前置詞です。文章の意味から考えて、within（以内に）が適切です。
in 24 hoursは「24時間後に」という意味になり、for 24 hoursは「24時間ずっと」という意味になるため適切ではありません。before（の前に）は before 10 o’clock（10時前に）のように具体的な時刻とともに使う前置詞であるため、問題文の24 hoursとともに使うことはできません。
